Holidays 2014

Our three-week vacation this year was characterized by some very special highlights: we went on some great tours with Michael.

Michael is a dear friend who I have known for many years. He emigrated to Crete some time ago and probably knows the island better than many a local. He has explored the island by jeep, enduro, mountain bike and on foot and knows paths, paths and places that are not listed in any travel guide.

Among other things, we climbed the mountain Kouroupas (by jeep) and the Veni Monastery visited.

Economically, it seems to be going up again, at least on Crete. This feeling is of course purely subjective, but the restaurants we visited were busier again and we had to look for a free seat in the "Minos Mare" in the afternoon. At least Stavros, the landlord of our favorite Kellari, had a lot to do in the evenings and made one quite satisfied impression.

This year we toured almost 1,900 km across the island in our jeep, visited many well-known places, but also discovered a lot of new things. However, I was a bit more cautious with my driving style, since many flash boxes were installed on the new national road and nobody could tell us whether the parts were actually functional. There was also an increased police presence. After looking at the Greek catalog of fines, we (almost) preferred each other on the "motorway" adhered to speed limits and overtaken less often in third lane.

Otherwise we spent a wonderful three weeks on the island and also spent many an evening with us Antje and a glass of wine or Charly (cola + brandy).
